Oregon expected to hire Syracuse assistant as new WR coach, per report
Oregon is nearing a move to make Syracuse assistant Ross Douglas its next wide receivers coach, according to a report from CBS Sports’ Matt Zenitz.
Douglas, 30, will replace Junior Adams, who left to join the Dallas Cowboys in the NFL. He spent 1 season with Syracuse as its receivers coach and passing game coordinator, during which the Orange led the nation in passing.
“Ross is one of the young bright minds in football,” Syracuse head coach Fran Brown said when he hired Douglas last year. “He’ll be a great head coach one day.”
In 2024, Douglas was tasked with replacing 2 of the Orange’s top 3 receivers from the year prior. Sophomore Darrell Gill Jr. had a breakout year, junior Trebor Pena had the best year of his career, and Georgia transfer Jackson Meeks blossomed into a go-to weapon.
All 3 players had at least 70 receptions, at least 900 receiving yards, and at least 7 receiving touchdowns. Meeks finished as the leader with 1,021 yards.
Prior to Syracuse, Douglas spent 3 seasons on the New England Patriots’ staff. He joined the organization as a defensive assistant in 2021, then was promoted to wide receivers coach in 2022, becoming the youngest position coach in the NFL at the time.
Douglas will take over an Oregon receiver group that has immense potential in 2025. Evan Stewart returns to lead the rotation, and he’s joined by Justius Lowe, Kyler Kasper, and Jurrion Dickey. Oregon added former Florida State wideout Malik Benson via the transfer portal and signed 5-star high school prospect Dakorien Moore.
