Oregon has swiped a blue-chip commitment from Mario Cristobal.

Gavin Nix, a linebacker from Florida, had been verbally pledged to the Miami Hurricanes since July 1. On Tuesday, ahead of the beginning of the Early Signing Period, he announced that he is heading far from home to play for Dan Lanning’s program.

“First and foremost, I want to thank my lord and savior for blessing me with the opportunities at hand and sticking with me through every step of this process,” he wrote in a note posted to social media. “I want to express my heartfelt gratitude to the University of Miami for extending me a blessing to be a part of a prestigious football program. The opportunity to join such a historic institution is something that is truly an honor and something I truly value. There’s not a single day that goes by where I take it for granted. After much thought and prayer, I have decided to decommit from the University of Miami.

“And will now be committing to the University of Oregon. This was not an easy decision, as I hold deep respect and admiration for the coaching staff, players, and fans at Miami. This decision comes down to what I believe deeply in my heart. I am incredibly grateful for the time and effort Miami has invested in me throughout this process. The relationships I have built with Miami are real ones that I will always cherish. Once again, Miami thank you for believing in me and offering me the chance to represent The U. I wish the team nothing but success in the future.”

Nix plays for the IMG Academy in Bradenton, Florida. He is listed as measuring 6-feet and 225 pounds. On the 247Sports Composite, Nix is rated 4-stars, the No. 26 linebacker, No. 35 player in the state of Florida and No. 239 prospect overall in the Class of 2025.

With Nix on board, Oregon now has 18 verbal commitments in a class ranked No. 6 nationally on the Composite. Duck fans can get a preview of what he brings to Eugene by checking out his Hudl highlights below:
