Oregon has a tradition-rich relationship with quarterbacks from Hawaii, and that lineage continued Wednesday when the Ducks flipped 4-star sensation Jaron-Keawe Sagapolutele from Cal.

The 6-foot-3, 225-pounder from Ewa Beach, Hawaii, had been committed to the Golden Bears since July but has now flipped his commitment to the Ducks.

“All Glory to My Lord and Savior Jesus!” said Sagapolutele on social media.

Quarterback Marcus Mariota, who was born in Honolulu, led Oregon to the national championship game a decade ago, and current Ducks star quarterback Dillon Gabriel was born in Mililani, Hawaii. Now, that Hawaii-Oregon connection has a chance for another member.

Sagapolutele is the No. 106-ranked player in the 2025 recruiting class, according to 247Sports. The top-ranked player from the state of Hawaii out of James Campbell High School, he recently took visits to Oregon, Cal and Georgia before making a decision to play for Dan Lanning next season in Eugene.

Oregon is in the midst of a dream season, having just completed a 12-0 regular season with Gabriel at the helm. But with Gabriel on the way out after this season, the Ducks were looking for their next guy to lead the offense in 2025 and beyond. Looks like they might’ve just gotten that guy.
