Oregon is preparing for the College Football Playoff quarterfinals, a game that could be the start of a national championship run or the end of the line for several fan favorites.

Ahead of the Ducks’ game against Ohio State, running back Jordan James and left tackle Josh Conerly Jr. were asked about their future plans. Both have the ability to jump to the NFL early or return to Oregon for the 2025 season. Neither committed to an answer on Saturday.

“I’m not focused on that,” Conerly told reporters at a media availability. “I’m just focused on the game.”

Conerly was selected as a third-team All-American this season by the Associated Press. He was also a first-team All-Big Ten pick by league coaches and media. He has started all 13 games at left tackle and was the Ducks’ highest-graded offensive lineman in pass protection. He allowed only 5 quarterback pressures all year, per PFF. More than 200 FBS tackles have played at least 800 snaps this year; those 5 pressures allowed by Conerly are tied for the third-fewest.

James said he had not yet decided on whether he’ll return or go pro.

The 5-foot-10 tailback from Nashville was a second-team All-Big Ten choice this year. Entering the postseason, James has 1,253 rushing yards, 202 receiving yards, and 15 touchdowns.  He is among the highest-graded running backs in the country, with a 91.3 rushing grade from PFF.

The NFL has a “soft deadline” on Jan. 6 for players whose seasons have ended to file for special eligibility. There is also a championship deadline on Jan. 24 that pertains to players on the 2 teams participating in the College Football Playoff national championship game on Jan. 20.

Oregon plays its first CFP game next Wednesday at the Rose Bowl against Ohio State. The Ducks are a 2.5-point underdog in the game, via ESPN Bet. Should they win, they’ll advance to the semis against the winner of Texas-Arizona State.
