Oregon is set to play its first Big Ten home game when it welcomes Michigan State to Autzen Stadium on Friday, and the Ducks will be doing so in style.

Oregon will be sporting the latest look in its “Stomp Out Cancer” uniform series, which has dated back to when the Ducks wore pink-accented uniforms in the early 2010s before it created the moniker for a 2017 uniform that was worn against Nebraska.

The Ducks will be going with a black-yellow-yellow look, with the jerseys and pants featuring black and metallic silver trim.

The background to these uniforms is especially unique. Dan Lanning’s wife Sauphia is a cancer survivor, and thus she and her three sons were tasked with each drawing uniforms that they thought could honor cancer survivors and fighters throughout the country.

The Oregon equipment and design staffs took their suggestions into account when designing these uniforms, as there are unique elements all over them that pay homage to what Lanning’s family drew. For instance, colors representing each form of cancer are striped at the front of each shoe, a ribbon “O” emblem has been added to the shoulders and the moniker “Flight-Fight” is displayed.

And, if you look closely, one can see that there are ice cream cones and molecular patterns sewn into the jerseys. The cones are there because the Lanning family would get ice cream after every one of Sauphia’s chemotherapy sessions, and the molecular structure represents the difficult “Red Devil” chemo treatment that many patients have to go through, including Sauphia.

The Ducks will don these uniforms at 6 p.m. PT Friday against Michigan State.
