An overnight shooting has claimed the life of Toledo defensive lineman Jahneil Douglas. The school confirmed that Douglas died as a result of his injuries. He was 22.

Jordan Strack of WTOL-TV reported that Douglas was killed in the shooting that occurred in Toledo outside of Gino’s Pizza. Two individuals were involved in a fight late Tuesday night that escalated.

Police say casings were found scattered in the parking lot and at least one car was hit by gunfire.

The restaurant has video surveillance near where the shooting happened. There is no word on any arrests as of yet.

Toledo head coach Jason Candle issued a statement on Douglas’s passing.

“The Toledo football family is heartbroken by the loss of Jahneil. He was a bright and hard-working young man who was loved by all his teammates and coaches,” Candle said in the statement. “Our sincerest condolences go out to Jahneil’s family and friends during these difficult times. Jahneil will forever be a part of the Rocket football family.”

Douglas appeared in 12 games for the Rockets over the last two seasons. He was majoring in Communications at Toledo.
