Pat Fitzgerald expresses unwavering confidence in B1G football
Week 3 was a bad weekend for Big Ten football and the Northwestern Wildcats weren’t immune to that. In fact, it’s been a tough few weeks for Pat Fitzgerald and his team.
After starting the season off with a win over Purdue, Northwestern has gone on to lose two-straight against what appeared to be inferior opponents. The Wildcats lost to Duke, 21-7, and then absolutely blew a game to Akron. The Wildcats were at one time up 18 points on the Zips, but ended up losing in humiliating fashion, 39-34.
For Fitzgerald, the only thing he could think of doing was to move on. This, according to his quotes via Steve Batterson of the quad-city times.

“That’s really all you can do, move on to the next one and try to get better,’’ Northwestern coach Pat Fitzgerald said.
As mentioned above, the Big Ten as a whole struggled last weekend. The Wildcats weren’t the only team to be upset in B1G fashion, with Nebraska losing to Troy, Rutgers losing to Kansas, Maryland falling to Temple and Wisconsin, then-ranked No. 6 overall, losing to BYU at Camp Randle Stadium.
A terrible weekend of football, but what else can the Big Ten do besides move on?
In fact, as Fitzgerald continued to speak he expressed an unwavering confidence in the conference. Sure, it wasn’t the weekend many of the Big Ten’s schools were hoping for, but there’s still plenty of time for the Big Ten to come out on top.
Heres Fitz:
“It was a tough week last week and we were part of it,’’ Fitzgerald said. “Last year, 7-1 in bowls and it was a great year for the conference. Time will tell.’’
He’s right. Time will tell. And to his point, there are still five Big Ten schools in the AP Top 25.
Ohio State is clearly the top dog right now, ranked No. 4, but Penn State (#10), Wisconsin (#18), Michigan (#19), and Michigan State (#24) are still all having Top 25 seasons.
