Paul Finebaum calls UCF fans 'delusional,' says AD can't 'keep his mouth shut'
Paul Finebaum usually enjoys blasting the B1G. Whether it’s calling Jim Harbaugh overrated, saying that Penn State doesn’t have a great program or slamming Urban Meyer for underachieving at Ohio State, the SEC Network host loves bashing the Midwest.
Those are all statements that have come out of Finebaum’s mouth by the way, as ridiculous as all of them sound.
But the college football analyst spewed his venom elsewhere on Monday morning, targeting UCF, its fans and athletic director Danny White. Finebaum didn’t hold much back.
Joining The RoundTable on WJOX for his weekly appearance, Finebaum discussed the College Football Playoff rankings that will be released on Tuesday. When asked what he’s most curious to see when the poll comes out, Finebaum started talking about UCF’s placement.
It didn’t take long for him to start bashing the AAC power.
“The one thing I am probably fascinated by is UCF,” Finebaum said. “I want to see if the committee listens to the noise, plays the political correctness game and ranks UCF ahead of a school like Kentucky, who has done something this year. Who has gone on the road and beaten a good Florida team. Who has one to [Texas] A&M and played to an overtime game. And if they do that, this committee begins to lose all credibility.
“UCF shouldn’t be in the top 10, they shouldn’t be anywhere near the top 10. The only thing UCF has going for them is a grandstanding athletic director who just can’t keep his mouth shut, but also can’t schedule a decent opponent. And a fanbase that is delusional.”
Danny White, of course, recently sent a letter to College GameDay asking for help to give UCF a shot to compete for a national title.
UCF is currently riding a 20-game winning streak which includes a win over Auburn in last year’s Peach Bowl. It’s currently 7-0 this season and is looking to repeat as AAC champions.
Due to a weaker schedule, the Knights have not gotten much attention from the College Football Playoff selection committee, despite the best efforts of the fans and White.
We’ll find out on Tuesday where UCF ranks.
