Paul Finebaum made a career talking about SEC football, but that doesn’t mean the college football personality can’t throw down some thoughts on the Big Ten.

And throw them down he did, because Finebaum didn’t hold back when discussing Saturday’s epic matchup between No. 4 Ohio State and No. 9 Penn State. Both teams are undefeated and both teams have a legitimate chance to make a run to the College Football Playoffs. Of course, winning the Big Ten is the first step in that process and with the Big Ten East arguably on the line in this game, the stakes couldn’t be any higher.

With that said, Finebaum does think that at least in terms of CFP perception, Ohio State is somewhat in a win-win scenario. A win in Happy Valley would make the Buckeyes one of the favorites to make the playoffs. He doesn’t think a loss would hurt the Bucks as much as one would hurt Penn State though — and that’s because of PSU’s clear home-field advantage.

Here’s what he said on SportsCenter when discussing the game, via 247Sports:

“If Ohio State loses they will view them far more favorably because this is a road game,” Finebaum said. “This is a very difficult environment. You’ll hear it all morning on GameDay and you’ll hear it all night. It’s hard to find a tougher place to play than at night at Happy Valley. If Penn State loses, they will not be in as good as shape. They’ll have to run the table and obviously hope they win the Big Ten Championship.

Finebaum didn’t shy away from predicting a big winner, either:

“The headline (for Sunday will be) Ohio State escapes Penn State in the most significant victory of this young season,” Finebaum said.

Finebaum is right in that an OSU victory would be the most significant win of the college football season so far. Despite the Buckeyes coming in as the higher-ranked team, Penn State has the top scoring offense in college football and arguably the best home-field advantage in college football.

A win by Ohio State would make a huge statement, and that’s exactly what Finebaum is predicting.
