If there is one team from last year’s College Football Playoff that won’t make the cut in 2021, SEC Network’s Paul Finebaum says it would be Clemson.

Speaking on ESPN’s Get Up on Wednesday, Finebaum was asked which team he thought would not make a return appearance to the College Football Playoff this fall. He says Clemson fits the description, primarily because of its Week 1 opponent.

“I would take Clemson out for this reason, Greeny. They meet the team that I think can get in in the first game of the season,” Finebaum said. “You have Georgia and Clemson in Charlotte, and if Georgia wins this game, and right now I think they’re going to, they vault to number one in the country perhaps… So, we could see a changing of the guard by the end of the first weekend of the regular season.”

Clemson has played in every College Football Playoff since the 2015 season, missing out only on the inaugural season. The Tigers have played in four championship games, winning a pair of titles.

Dabo Swinney’s team will be one of the favorites to reach the College Football Playoff and is favored to win the ACC again in 2021. We’ll see if Finebaum’s prediction comes true.
