Penn State and Oregon are meeting for the first time as Big Ten opponents Saturday night, and the two teams are playing for a championship in the process.

The first half was not short on action. The two sides combined for over 500 yards of offense and 55 total points when halftime rolled around.

That point total sets a new record for the Big Ten Championship Game for points in a first half. The previous record was 52 points when Wisconsin carried a 42-10 over Nebraska into halftime of the 2012 game.

Obviously, this year’s game is much more evenly matched than that version, at least through the first half of action.

At halftime, Penn State had 283 yards of offense and is averaging 8.6 yards per carry. Oregon had 254 total yards of offense with Dillon Gabriel throwing for 157 yards and 3 touchdowns, all to tight ends for the Ducks.

Oregon is looking to complete its 13-0 path to the College Football Playoff and the No. 1 seed in the final bracket. Meanwhile, Penn State would love to register a marquee win and grab a first-round bye, regardless of where the Nittany Lions rank in the final seeding.

The second half of action can be seen on CBS.
