Another week of B1G football is in the books, and we’re starting to see some teams’ true colors. Some teams are proving they’re legit, others are proving it’s going to be a long season.

Predicting each team’s record is getting more and more fun, though. Here’s what we think will happen after Week 5.

Iowa — 11-1

Any questions about Iowa were probably answered when the Hawkeyes flew past Maryland 51-14 this week. But we’ll find out just how good they are next week when they take on No. 4 Penn State at Kinnick Stadium. That should be the game of the week for B1G fans.

Illinois — 3-9

For the first time in a month, Illinois won a game, this time a comeback 24-14 victory over Charlotte. The passing game raises a lot of questions, which is huge considering the Fighting Illini face the B1G’s top 3 run defenses over the next 6 games.

Indiana — 4-8

We already know Indiana isn’t what it was last year. But the Hoosiers might be without Michael Penix Jr. after he suffered a shoulder injury against Penn State Saturday night. If he’s out, it would be a huge blow to the Indiana offense — and it won’t be easy to recover from.

Maryland — 7-5

Maryland’s undefeated start to the season came to a tough end this week as Iowa went into Capital One Field and blew the Terps out, 51-14. Still, they have one of the best quarterbacks in the league in Taulia Tagovailoa. How he responds after facing the B1G’s best defense will determine how Maryland finishes the season.

Michigan — 9-3

Michigan’s still legit, especially if the Wolverines have found their passing game. Cade McNamara had a good day against Wisconsin this week, and if Jim Harbaugh has that in his arsenal, the Wolverines are going to be really tough to beat the rest of the way.

And no, we’re not saying they’ll win the last game on the schedule. Let’s be clear.

Michigan State — 8-4

As expected, Michigan State won its fifth game in a row this week, this time over Western Kentucky. The Spartans are red hot and have a favorable matchup next week at Rutgers. But after that game, the schedule gets tough. That’s where we’ll see Mel Tucker’s group’s true colors.

Minnesota — 7-5

Minnesota bounced back well after the loss to Bowling Green, beating Purdue 20-13. The Golden Gophers have a favorable schedule coming up, and an over .500 finish looks like it’s on the horizon.

Nebraska — 5-7

What a performance from Nebraska as the Cornhuskers ran Northwestern out of the building this week. Could coach Scott Frost’s job be safe, after all? Well, that’s a different column. For now, Nebraska could make a run at a bowl game. Imagine saying that after Week 0.

Northwestern — 4-8

Who would’ve thought we’d be asking questions about Northwestern’s defense this season? That’s where we’re at after the Wildcats gave up 56 points against Nebraska. It’s looking like a worst-case scenario season for Pat Fitzgerald’s group.

Ohio State — 11-1

Ohio State’s back, answering all questions as the Buckeyes routed Rutgers 52-13. They look poised to run the table the rest of the way.

Penn State — 9-3

Penn State is the real deal. The Nittany Lions shut down Indiana and continued their hot start to the season. Next week’s game at Iowa looks to be a classic B1G showdown, and we’ll see just how good the Nittany Lions’ offense is against the conference’s best defense.

Purdue — 4-8

The Boilermakers couldn’t hold onto their halftime lead and didn’t score in the second half of a 20-14 loss to Minnesota this week. Jeff Brohm’s group is going to be teetering on bowl eligibility if they don’t get everything figured out.

Rutgers — 5-7

Remember all that talk last week in this space about Rutgers’ defense being legit? Yeah. That aged poorly. The Scarlet Knights gave up 52 points to Ohio State this week. Still, the Scarlet Knights’ schedule is pretty favorable and they’ll likely bounce back.

Wisconsin — 6-6

It’s a good thing Wisconsin’s schedule is favorable because the Badgers shouldn’t be able to get away with how they’ve been playing lately. The last two games have been alarming as Wisconsin fell to 1-3 for the first time since Barry Alvarez’s first year in Madison. That’s not easy to bounce back from, and their record projection has fallen tremendously over the last couple weeks.
