Final Score: #13 Wisconsin 35 #11 Michigan 14

Brief Recap: This game can be recapped quickly. Look at the final score. Wisconsin absolutely dominated. The Badgers led 21-0 midway through the second quarter and 35-0 midway through the third. The game was never in doubt. Michigan was helped by two 15-yard targeting penalties on one drive to score eight points. The other six the Wolverines scored came when they trailed 35-8 with 4:56 remaining.

Key Moment: Wisconsin RB Jonathan Taylor broke free for a 72-yard TD with 2:43 remaining in the first quarter. The score made it 14-0, which obviously wasn’t an insurmountable one to overcome, but the whole stadium was electric after that play. Wisconsin had swagger. The Badgers weren’t going to lose and they kept their foot on the gas for the next two-and-a-half quarters, showcasing their dominance.

Key Stat: Wisconsin out-gained Michigan on the ground 359-40. Taylor missed some time in the second quarter due to cramps, but still ran for 203 yards in the game (he returned in the second half).

Key Player: It would be easy to say Taylor, however, we’ll go with Wisconsin’s entire offensive line. The defense was an option as well, but 14 points were scored against them, regardless of how it happened. Wisconsin, again, rushed for 359 yards. Part of that was Taylor. But part of it was also the Badgers’ offensive line.

What it means for Wisconsin: This win will likely vault Wisconsin inside the top 10 of next week’s AP top 25 Poll. That could be huge. What it means even more is that it may allow one tight loss for Wisconsin down the line as long as it can get to the Big Ten Championship and win it. Say the Badgers go 12-1 and defeat Ohio State (or Michigan twice) in the B1G Championship when it matters most. Would they be left out of the playoff? It’d be tough. What this win also means is that Wisconsin can still go undefeated. The Badgers wouldn’t be left out if they continue to win.

What it means for Michigan: Michigan will drop massively in the polls. Like I mentioned before, College Football Playoff implications were in play with this game. The Wolverines can no longer drop a close one, run the table and get into the Playoff. They have to win out. And after that performance, that looks nearly impossible.
