The B1G is expected to announce a conference-only football schedule for the 2020 season, according to a report from Nicole Auerbach of The Athletic. An official announcement is expected to come sometime on Thursday.

The idea of playing a B1G-only schedule has been discussed several times since the COVID-19 pandemic shut down sports back in March. The league has tossed out the idea of playing a 9 or 10-game conference schedule for the 2020 season.

With this news, it would mean premier nonconference matchups — Washington-Michigan, Oregon-Ohio State, Penn State-Virginia Tech, Notre Dame-Wisconsin — would be canceled. There was no information on whether those games would be rescheduled.

Along with eliminating the nonconference games, several programs within the B1G are preparing for limited attendance at stadiums across the league. Anywhere from 20-50 percent capacity is expected, based on current guidelines from health officials.

It’s also unclear what the B1G’s expected announcement means for a B1G Championship Game, postseason bowl games or the College Football Playoff.
