Report: Big 12 in serious discussions to add independent program
The Big 12 is going to have to make some moves with Oklahoma and Texas eventually departing for the SEC. It appears an independent program has caught its eye.
The Big 12 is reportedly in serious discussions to add BYU, according to The Athletic.

BYU would be an intriguing addition to the Big 12 with its combination of recent on-field success and its media market in the Rocky Mountain area.
BYU has been independent since 2011 after being in the Mountain West from 1999-2010. BYU is coming off an 11-1 record in 2020, capped off with a victory vs. UCF in the Boca Raton Bowl. BYU ended last season ranked No. 11 in the AP and Coaches polls.
Since becoming independent, BYU has had a winning record in all but one season (2017).
BYU kicks off this season with a road matchup at Arizona on Sept. 4 (10:30 p.m. EST/ESPN).
