Report: Daughter-in-law of LSU offensive coordinator Steve Ensminger one of 5 killed in small plane crash headed to Peach Bowl
The daughter-in-law of LSU offensive coordinator Steve Ensminger was one of five people killed in a small plane crash in Lafayette, Louisiana on Saturday morning, as it was departing for the Peach Bowl game between No. 1 LSU and No. 4 Oklahoma, according to reports.
According to WAFB 9, Carley McCord was one of the five individuals who were killed in the plane crash Saturday morning. She was a sideline reporter for Cox Sports and ESPN game host for the New Orleans Pelicans and New Orleans Saints, according to her Twitter account.
McCord was married to Ensminger’s son.
Brody Miller of The Athletic reported that Ensminger plans to coach LSU in the Peach Bowl.
WAFB 9 is reporting that at least five people were killed after an eight-passenger plane crashed in the Lafayette area. The individuals inside the plane were headed to Atlanta for the Peach Bowl game, which is also being played on Saturday afternoon.
The plane crashed into an open field around 9 a.m., according to the report. Six people were aboard the flight.
Following the crash, there was a fire involving the plane and a vehicle. One of the passengers and three individuals on the ground were sent to the hospital to be treated for their injuries.
Witnesses said the plane struck a power line while attempting to make an emergency landing. There were no details about what caused the aircraft to crash. The investigation is ongoing.
