Longtime College GameDay analyst and college football broadcaster Kirk Herbstreit is reportedly teaming up with Amazon to start calling Thursday Night Football games for the NFL. NBC’s Peter King reported the news.

Herbstreit has been one of the most popular voices in college football for the past two decades, serving as a staple on College GameDay and working with Chris Fowler for the ABC/ESPN Game of the Week in college football.

Over the past few years, Fowler and Herbstreit have teamed up to call a handful of NFL games for ESPN, providing a fresh perspective on the game. It appears that he’s done such a good job with that responsibility that Amazon is zeroing in on the former Ohio State quarterback.

From NBC Sports:

I heard last night that Amazon—spurned by Troy Aikman, Sean McVay and John Lynch—has settled on ESPN’s Kirk Herbstreit to be the analyst on its Thursday night package of NFL games starting this fall. (He’s likely to continue his current ESPN/ABC duties as well.) Andrew Marchand of the New York Post was first to connect the Amazon-Herbstreit dots on Feb. 27.

According to King, Herbstreit’s move to Amazon will not replace his spot in college football. He’s expected to stick with ESPN/ABC to continue working on College GameDay and calling the featured Game of the Week for the network.
