Report: Louisville Athletic Department eliminating approximately 40 positions
The University of Louisville’s athletic department is feeling the negative effects of the coronavirus pandemic. According to a recent report, it’s forced the school to eliminate dozens of positions.
Pat Forde of Sports Illustrated reported on Wednesday that Louisville Athletic Director Vince Tyra said his department is eliminating around 40 positions because of the current climate. Some of those layoffs will include long-time staff members.

On Tuesday, ESPN reported that Tyra had stated that Louisville was cutting 15 percent of its budget and planned to furlough several employees. Specifications at the time were not available.
The goal was to eliminate $10-$15 million of its budget for the 2020-21 year. Tyra has also talked about he and head coaches taking 10-percent pay cuts, as well as forgoing bonuses.
Also on Tuesday, Boise State University announced that it would also be furloughing employees, with everyone making $40,000 or more to take furlough. Several members of the athletic department at Boise State will be taking 7-10 days of furlough in the coming weeks and months.
