Report: One B1G bowl game has already been canceled this season
A bowl game with B1G tie-ins has already been canceled, according to a report.
Brett McMurphy of Action Network reported on Wednesday that the Redbox Bowl has been canceled this season. The reason behind the fold is the bowl game’s inability to secure a national television partner to broadcast this year’s contest.
The Redbox Bowl was set to feature the sixth selection out of the Pac-12 and the seventh selection from the B1G. McMurphy is reporting that the two conferences are exploring opportunities to play in another bowl game, which could result in two Group of 5 schools being left out of the postseason.
Last year, the Redbox Bowl was the first postseason game to be canceled because of the pandemic. It is hopeful to return for the 2022 season, but the future remains unknown.
The 2019 Redbox Bowl featured a matchup between Illinois and Cal. The Bears recorded a 35-20 victory.
