A duo of Oregon defenders is potentially in some hot water that could shake up one of Ohio State’s key early-season games.

According to James Crepea with The Oregonian, Oregon defensive backs Jamal Hill and DJ James are facing charges after allegedly shooting three people with an airsoft gun Tuesday night. According to Crepea, both players are facing three charges of reckless endangering, assault, unlawful discharge of a firearm, and disorderly conduct, according to Eugene Police.

From The Oregonian:

Police said a man reported being shot in the face with a “realistic-looking airsoft gun at 14th and Willamette by someone in a sedan that had driven past him,” at 11:44 p.m. Tuesday night. Two other people reported similar incidents in a close time and proximity, including one riding an electric scooter who claimed he was “almost hit by the vehicle as it left the area,” police said.

Police indicated that Hill and James were cooperative with responding officers. Both players were cited for the charges in lieu of an arrest.

It remains to be seen what punishment these players could be facing if the charges hold, but both saw action for the Ducks in 2020. Hill recorded 24 tackles, four passes defended, and led the team with two interceptions. James recorded 16 tackles and a fumble recovery.

Oregon opens the season on Sept. 4 against Fresno State before traveling to Columbus to face the Buckeyes on Sept. 11.
