President Donald Trump is very optimistic about the 2020 NFL season starting on time, according to a report from ESPN’s Adam Schefter.

Saturday afternoon, Trump spoke with professional sports commissioners via a telephone conference to discuss the situation with the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic. According to Schefter, Trump told the commissioners in that phone call that he believes the NFL season should be able to start on time.

In addition, Trump also reportedly told commissioners that he hopes to have fans attending games in stadiums and arenas by August and September. Schefter was also clear to state in his report that it’s unclear if any medical experts believe those are realistic expectations and timelines as the country continues to battle the public health crisis.

While major sports commissioners were in on the phone call, it should be noted that the NCAA was not represented during the conversation. There was no discussion about a return to college sports that was reported.

All sporting activities and events across all levels have suspended play and either postponed or canceled previously scheduled events. There’s been no timeline on when sporting events would be able to return over the last few weeks.

Here is the list of commissioners who spoke with Trump on Saturday:
