Report: West Virginia AD sends letter to NCAA Board of Governors asking to delay decision on fall sports championships

A recent letter from West Virginia University athletic director Shane Lyons is asking the NCAA Board of Governors to hold off on its decision regarding the cancellation of fall sports championships. Yahoo Sports’ Pete Thamel obtained the letter and reported the news on Wednesday afternoon.

Lyons prepared the letter on behalf of the Football Oversight Committee. In the message, he suggested that the NCAA Board of Governors allow schools more time before making a final ruling on the status of fall sports championships.

The Board of Governors is scheduled to meet on Friday.

Below are the contents of the note, as tweeted out by Thamel on Wednesday:

“We are simply requesting that the Board of Governors not make an immediate decision on the outcome of fall championships so that conferences and schools may have ample latitude to continue to evaluate the viability of playing football this fall.”

What the NCAA Board of Governors decides on Friday could provide more insight as to what’s to come for the college football season. Already, the B1G and Pac-12 have nixed nonconference games. Notre Dame AD Jack Swarbrick is pushing for a delayed start.

There’s unlikely to be many fans in attendance at college football stadiums.

But will we have a season? That’s one question that still hasn’t been answered yet.
