The wife of former Central Michigan head coach John Bonamego was reportedly barred from Kelly/Shorts Stadium midway through the season following a confrontation with Chippewas’ play-by-play voice Don Chiodo.

According to cm-life.com, Paulette Bonamego had a run-in with Chiodo following Central Michigan’s 24-23 loss to Ball State. The Cardinals kicked a game-winning field goal with under a minute to play, leading to another Chippewas loss. Following the game, Chiodo made a comment that did not sit well with Paulette Bonamego.

Paulette Bonamego was sitting in a suite at Kelly/Shorts Stadium, which was right next to the broadcast area. She reportedly overheard the comment and confronted Chiodo in the press box after stepping away from the microphone.

Per cm-life.com, Paulette Bonamego had consumed alcohol prior to the run-in with Chiodo, but it was unclear how much.

Central Michigan’s game against Ball State was played on Oct. 13, meaning Paulette Bonamego couldn’t step foot inside the stadium for the second half of the season.

John Bonamego was recently fired from the university following Central Michigan’s 1-11 finish in 2018. It was the first time since taking over the program in 2015 that the Chippewas were not bowl eligible.

In four seasons with Central Michigan, John Bonamego posted a 22-29 record.
