R.J. Young has his favorites for the Heisman Trophy in 2023. No surprise, the B1G is represented. ‘The Number One College Football Show’, a program Young hosts, tweeted out its top 4 candidates entering the offseason to hoist up college football’s most coveted award.

While Colorado’s Shedeur Sanders seems to be a betting favorite in small circles after his success at Jackson State, Young also listed Michigan’s J.J. McCarthy and Ohio State’s Marvin Harrison Jr.

McCarthy won the starting job over Cade McNamara and didn’t miss a beat while leading the Wolverines to a 2nd B1G title under Jim Harbaugh. Known for his accuracy, McCarthy completed 64.6% of his throws for 2,719 yards passing and 22 touchdowns against 5 interceptions. He also helped Michigan pick up its first undefeated regular season since 1997.

McCarthy will be entering his junior season with the program and should benefit from another year in OC Sherrone Moore’s system. The Wolverines are also expected to be a heavy favorite to make it back to the College Football Playoff for a 3rd season after winning big in the transfer portal.

Few players were as consistent as Harrison this past fall. Filling in as CJ Stroud’s go-to receiver following the injury to Jaxon Smith-Njigba, Harrison totaled 77 catches for 1,263 yards receiving and 14 touchdowns while averaging 16.4 yards per catch. He looked unstoppable against No. 1 Georgia in the Peach Bowl Saturday evening prior to exiting the game with a head injury, totaling 5 catches for 106 yards and 2 touchdowns.
