Winning on the road has been nearly impossible in the B1G this season. Home teams have had an incredible record through most of the month of January, creating one of the more interesting seasons the conference has seen.

But there was a bit of a change across the league last week. For the first time all season, road teams actually enjoyed some success in an opposing arena with some consistency.

From Dec. 6 through Jan. 19, road teams in B1G conference games were 7-42, a staggering low winning percentage for an entire conference. This past week, however, teams were 8-5 on the road. Here’s a look at those eight road victories:

  • No. 21 Illinois def. Purdue (Mackey Arena) 79-62
  • No. 17 Maryland def. Northwestern (Welsh-Ryan Arena) 77-66
  • Penn State def. Michigan (Crisler Center) 72-63
  • Minnesota def. Ohio State (Value City Arena) 62-59
  • No. 21 Illinois def. Michigan (Crisler Center) 64-62
  • No. 17 Maryland def. Indiana (Assembly Hall) 77-76
  • No. 11 Michigan State def. Minnesota (Williams Arena) 70-52
  • Ohio State def. Northwestern (Welsh-Ryan Arena) 71-59

Perhaps teams are starting to get a little more comfortable playing away from their home venue. Or maybe the matchups worked out just right this past week.

Either way, it’ll be interesting to see if road teams start winning more games across the B1G, or if this week proves to be an outlier for the season.
