Rutgers defeats Iowa by 2 after controversial foul call in final seconds
Wednesday night’s Rutgers-Iowa game ended with a controversial foul call in the final seconds. The game was tied 46-46 with 2 seconds remaining when a foul call on Iowa’s Keegan Murray sent Rutgers’ Ron Harper Jr. to the line.
The B1G Network broadcasting crew questioned whether a foul call was warranted on a non-shooting play.

Harper, the game’s leading scorer, made his 2 free throws to put Rutgers ahead 48-46. In the final 2 seconds, the Hawkeyes managed to get a long pass down the floor, but Murray’s 3-point attempt was no good.

It was a rough shooting night for both teams. Rutgers shot 31 percent from the field, while Iowa made just 27.9 percent of its field-goal attempts. Iowa had fewer turnovers (10-15) and was the better 3-point shooting team (22.2 percent to 15.4 percent), but lost the rebound battle 49-38. Harper led all scorers with 15 points. Murray had 13 for Iowa.
Rutgers improves to 11-6 overall and 5-2 in conference play. Iowa falls to 13-5 and 3-4.
