The Week 1 matchup between Oklahoma and Tulane has officially been relocated in the wake of Hurricane Ida.

The season opener for both schools was originally slated to be hosted by Tulane as a part of a 2-for-1 series with Oklahoma hosting two games and Tulane hosting one. Unfortunately, the New Orleans-based Green Wave have relocated to Birmingham to start the season, forcing the game to move to Norman.

However, as a part of Monday’s announcement about the change, Oklahoma indicated that Tulane will still serve as the home team for the contest. Additionally, Tulane will retain all net proceeds from ticket sales.

“This is obviously a heart-wrenching time,” said Oklahoma VP and AD Joe Castiglione. “We have been reminded again of the life events that take precedence over everything else we do. Our thoughts and prayers are with Tulane President Michael Fitts, Athletics Director Troy Dannen, the Tulane community and everyone impacted by this storm.

“I know that many of our fans were looking forward to visiting one of our favorite cities, New Orleans. But now, we have an opportunity to do what we do best, and that is extend our hospitality to people who are facing a significant challenge. All of us will do our part to make the Tulane team and fans feel welcome and appreciated as we host their home game.”

Kickoff time for that game is still set for 12 pm EST (11 am local time).
