Shoe toss: Florida DB’s stupid penalty cost Gators game vs. LSU, potential Playoff spot

It looked like Florida was going to get the ball back after they stopped LSU on third down, until they didn’t.

Florida defensive back Marco Wilson threw an LSU player’s shoe after the play was over which ended up being a 15-yard penalty. That kept the Gators defense on the field and it led to the Tigers kicking the game-winning 57-yard field goal.

A replay of the bad penalty from Wilson can be seen here:

Florida tried to drive down the field after the field goal from LSU, but they ended up missing the game-tying field goal to lose the game.

This loss will have a dramatic effect on Florida’s hopes to make the College Football Playoff. Even if they beat Alabama to get to 9-2, the committee would unlikely put them into the top four because of this loss to LSU.

Had they won this game and then beaten the Crimson Tide, the committee would no doubt have put Florida into the top four.
