Tom Brady was going to retire at some point. Yet, at the same time, a lot of us almost never expected to 7-time Super Bowl champion to make the announcement.
At age 44, the former sixth-round pick was still the general of a winning team and continued to pile up playoff victories and Super Bowl appearances. It’s why he’ll be remembered as the greatest to ever play the position.
On Saturday afternoon, ESPN’s Adam Schefter reported that Brady will be retiring from league after a 22-year career, which included 20 seasons with the New England Patriots and 2 with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

Tom Brady said he wanted to play until 45. He nearly made it. But 22 seasons, 15 Pro Bowls, 3 MVPs, 7 Super Bowls will have to suffice.

David Ortiz got voted into the Baseball Hall of Fame and Tom Brady retired from the NFL within four days of each other. That officially closes the book on my childhood.

When Tom Brady retires, which reports say it is closer than we all think, will sign a one day contract with the #Patriots to retire with the team per source. This was always the plan after he was done playing.

What a helluva 22 years. A run we’ll never see again in our lifetime. 7 titles. Led league in yards & TDs at 44. At 44. Thanks @TomBrady

It’s insane that Tom Brady is retiring at 44 and you could easily make the argument he’s leaving multiple good seasons on the table.

Tom Brady was a starter for 20 seasons in the NFL.
He reached the Super Bowl in 10(!!!) of those seasons.
Just think about that.
