The debate comes up every year: who’s the best coach in college football?

The Sporting News went a long way in determining which head coaches are the best in the sport. Recently, it ranked all 130 FBS level coaches entering the 2019 season. It was interesting to see where the B1G head coaches fell in comparison with the rest of the country.

Ten of the B1G’s 14 coaches were ranked inside the top 40 nationally, but only Michigan’s Jim Harbaugh was listed in the top 10. Here’s where every B1G coach was ranked:

  • No. 10 — Jim Harbaugh, Michigan
  • No. 13 — Mark Dantonio, Michigan State
  • No. 14 — James Franklin, Penn State
  • No. 16 — Paul Chryst, Wisconsin
  • No. 18 — Pat Fitzgerald, Northwestern
  • No. 22 — Ryan Day, Ohio State
  • No. 25 — Kirk Ferentz, Iowa
  • No. 28 — Scott Frost, Nebraska
  • No. 32 — Jeff Brohm, Purdue
  • No. 39 — P.J. Fleck, Minnesota
  • No. 67 — Tom Allen, Indiana
  • No. 79 — Mike Locksley, Maryland
  • No. 88 — Lovie Smith, Illinois
  • No. 90 — Chris Ash, Rutgers

To no one’s surprise, Nick Saban was at No. 1 and Dabo Swinney was No. 2. To view the full list from Sporting News, you can visit the website.
