Stephen A. Smith was not a fan of Clemson’s spot on the initial College Football Playoff Rankings.

The initial CFP field was unveiled on Tuesday evening with a number of surprises. Among the biggest was the selection of Ohio State at No. 1 overall ahead of LSU. Equally surprising to many analysts was the selection of Penn State at No. 4 with Clemson falling in at No. 5.

Everyone knows the Tigers are still in a great spot for the Playoff. After all, two of the top four teams are guaranteed to lose at some point. LSU plays Alabama this weekend while Penn State and Ohio State must play later this month. However, the No. 5 ranking shows that the Tigers have simply not looked as impressive this season.

Just don’t try to tell Stephen A. the Tigers do not deserve a Playoff spot right now. He went on an epic rant during First Take Wednesday to passionately campaign for Clemson:

“It’s a travesty,” Smith claimed of Clemson’s ranking. “Here’s the reality of the situation: it’s not Clemson’s fault that you can question their level of competition and the fact of which they’ve stomped on everybody…they are 9-0, they are the reigning, defending national champions.”
