Week 8 featured some wild action in the B1G, and it was a particularly noteworthy weekend for defenders.
When the dust finally settled, a trio of B1G players had collected pick-6s in the action. It all started in the Iowa vs. Ohio State matchup.
Late in the first half, Hawkeye QB Spencer Petras threw an ill-fated pass directly into the hands of Tommy Eichenberg. It was about as easy as a pick-6 as a defender can get.
Then, in the Indiana vs. Rutgers game, Christian Braswell provided the game-changing moment for the Scarlet Knights. With Indiana desperate, Connor Bazelak threw a desperation pass under duress from his end zone that was returned for a score.
The third came from Wisconsin’s John Torchio on Purdue’s opening drive of the game. Torchio sat back in coverage and timed up his jump perfectly before picking off the pass and rolling into the end zone for 6.
According to BTN, it was the first week of 3 pick-6s in conference play since Nov. 4 of the 2017 season. We’ll see if the conference can top that down the stretch of 2022.
