Texas player calls out Baker Mayfield after defeating Oklahoma in Red River Rivalry
There’s nothing quite as satisfying as revisiting and exposing a cold take. It’s even better if you get to call out a legend.
On Saturday, Texas’ defensive lineman Keondre Coburn had the chance to troll Oklahoma legend and first round NFL draft pick Baker Mayfield following the Longhorns’ 48-45 win over the Sooners.
In February Coburn posted a tweet that he was excited to “finally be a Longhorn” and promised to beat Oklahoma in the Red River Rivalry Game. Mayfield caught wind of that statement, and tried to quiet that noise.

“This is what we call being naïve,” Mayfield said in a tweet. “Kid has no idea what it’s like stepping into the Cotton Bowl. So here’s how it works…the team north of the Red River doesn’t flinch. But it’s okay, you’ll see for yourself, wish you the best.”
After the win, Coburn couldn’t wait to get to his phone.

“A promise is a promise,” Coburn said simply. He tagged Mayfield in the tweet and posted a photo of himself wearing the Golden Hat.
Oklahoma had won the last two meetings and three of the previous four.
Coburn got his moment on the field and on Twitter. And it had to feel so good silencing someone like Mayfield.
