The Texas Tech football team posted a tweet with a picture of one of their helmets for the upcoming bowl game with Ole Miss. The Red Raiders are going to be honoring their former HC Mike Leach.

Leach coached at Texas Tech from 2000-2009. Leach compiled an 84-43 record while in Lubbock. Leach’s next job after Texas Tech was at Washington State from 2012-2019. Leach left that job for Mississippi State in 2020.

Texas Tech is planning on wearing a pirate flag on the back of its helmets for Thursday’s Texas Bowl. This is because of Leach being known as the “The Pirate” throughout the college football world.

The Red Raiders are one of the many teams that Leach left an impact on. Houston, Bowling Green, and Missouri are just some of the programs that have honored Leach so far during their bowl games.

Fans can tune into the Texas Bowl Thursday at 9 p.m. ET on ESPN.
