We’ve known since the summer months that Kevin Warren would become the sixth commissioner of the B1G, replacing 30-year veteran Jim Delany. But now that the calendar has turned to Jan. 2, 2020, there’s officially a new leader of the conference.

Delany’s tenure is over and Warren is now the leader of the B1G. He has some big shoes to fill, as Delany led the charge in making the B1G one of the most profitable conferences in all of college athletics. He expanded the league from 10 to 14 teams during his run, and also helped kicks-start Big Ten Network just over a decade ago.

Recently, Delany was able to lock down a multi-billion dollar deal with FOX for television rights for football and basketball games, and recently expanded the men’s basketball tournament to cities like Washington D.C., and New York.

“Jim Delany has an iconic name and an iconic reputation,” Warren said in a release. “He made a commitment from the first day that I talked with him  that he was going to do everything in his power to be there for me and for this conference during the transition.”

Warren has been with the Minnesota Vikings in various roles since 2005, but was most recently serving as the Chief Operating Officer for the franchise, a title he held since 2015. He also had stops with the Detroit Lions (2001-03) and the St. Louis Rams (1997-2001).

Warren was officially named the next B1G commissioner on June 4, 2019.
