Three B1G Things: Ryan Day is hooked on 'Tiger King,' Michigan gets first commit in 10 months & P.J. Fleck's message to America
Three B1G Things is a daily weekday update on some of the most unique and interesting stories from across the B1G. It ranges from recruiting to coach press conferences, funny anecdotes to serious situations. We provide our commentary, analysis and opinions on a few topics every day.
Ryan Day and his wife couldn’t get enough of the Netflix docu-series Tiger King
Now that college football coaches aren’t spending 23 hours inside their offices, they have a little more time to do average, everyday things like the rest of us. And for Ohio State head coach Ryan Day, that includes watching the Netflix document series Tiger King: Murder, Mayhem and Madness.
I have mixed feelings about this. It’s refreshing to know that Day and his wife Nina enjoy the ridiculous drama that reality television provides, just like the rest of us. But I’d be lying if I didn’t say I was disappointed that Day didn’t set up a live stream while watching the show. I really would’ve loved to know what his reactions were to the people and the stories throughout the show.
What was Day’s reaction to the introduction of Joe Exotic? Does he believe Carole Baskin is hiding a secret? What are his thoughts on Jeff Lowe, perhaps the show’s dirtiest character? Maybe, someday, we can ask Day these very important questions.

Michigan ends a 10-month drought without a commitment
For a program that has been attempting to close the gap with its biggest rival, Michigan sure has been patient on the recruiting trail. But Jum Harbaugh received some good news earlier this week, landing a verbal pledge from four-star offensive lineman Greg Crippen from IMG Academy, who became the first player to commit since May 2019.
Later that same day, Michigan received a second commitment from three-star defensive end Dominick Giudice, bringing the Wolverines’ pledge total to four for the 2021 recruiting cycle.
To be fair to Michigan and Harbaugh, there are several programs that half received a half-dozen commitments or fewer at this point in the cycle. After all, we are still eight months away from the Early Signing Period. But when you see that Ohio State owns the nation’s top-ranked class and already has 14 hard commitments, it shows just how much of a gap there is between the Buckeyes and the Wolverines right now.
Michigan’s class currently ranks sixth in the B1G and 17th nationally.
P.J. Fleck sends an uplifting and encouraging message to America
These are hard times in our country and in our world. Everyone has felt the effects of the coronavirus pandemic, whether it’s been due to illness, financial hardship, or the inability to participate in activities that used to be common in our daily lives.
If there’s one person who can help people get through these difficult times, though, that person might be P.J. Fleck. And on Thursday, the Minnesota head coach went on the Pat McAfee Show to deliver a powerful, uplifting and encouraging message to the entire country.
Fleck does an excellent job of putting things in perspective, and pushing all of us to ensure that the ongoing public health crisis doesn’t destroy the country. Instead, he views it as an opportunity to develop a new sense of normal, and better the nation and the world.
It’s times like these when people need leadership and direction, and, in my opinion, Fleck does an excellent job of sending that message.
