Penn State and Maryland are back in the race for 3-star Apopka (Fla.) Wekiva defensive lineman Sincere Edwards, who de-committed from Central Florida on Wednesday and reopened his recruitment.

Edwards had been a UCF pledge since August of 2022 and he took an official visit to see the Knights earlier this month. But he decided to leave the class on Wednesday and dropped a new Top 5 alongside that announcement. The Nittany Lions and Terrapins are listed alongside UCF, South Florida, and Pitt.

“Lately, I’ve been thinking about my recruitment process and I just want to capitalize on every opportunity,” he wrote in a message shared on social media. “However, this doesn’t take away the love I have for UCF at all. I am an Orlando kid and it will be hard for any school to get me out of state.”

Edwards is a 3-star recruit in the industry-generated 247 Composite. He ranks as the No. 51 defensive lineman and the No. 533 overall recruit in the class. As a junior, he moved around on the defensive line and totaled 78 tackles, 27 tackles for loss, and 16 sacks in 10 games. (His Hudl tape lists 17 sacks while MaxPreps credits him with 16.) As a sophomore, he had another 62 tackles, 12 TFLs, and 10 sacks in 8 games. He also blocked a punt and forced a fumble.

Maryland offered in late January and got him to campus for a visit in March. The Penn State offer landed on May 26.

Edwards is taking his second official visit to Pitt this weekend. With his recruitment back up and running, it’ll be worth keeping an eye on whether Penn State or Maryland can land an official.
