If you’re hoping to ever make a bid in a Heisman Trophy auction, you’re going to need a pretty healthy balance in your bank account.

On Saturday night, after Oklahoma quarterback Kyler Murray was named the Heisman Trophy winner for the 2018 season, a past winner’s award brought in a hefty chunk of change.

Darren Rovell of Action Network reported late Saturday night that Tim Brown’s Heisman Trophy sold at the price of $426,000. That price was the most for any Heisman award that has made its way to the market.

The previous record was $399,608. That was the sale price for the 1994 Heisman Trophy which belonged to Rashaan Salaam. That award was sold in 2016.

Brown was a star at Notre Dame in the 1980s and won the Heisman Trophy following the 1987 season. He became the first wide receiver to ever receive the award.

In 1987, Brown had 39 receptions for 846 yards and three touchdowns for the Irish. He was also a dynamic special teams player, totaling 857 yards and three touchdowns as a kick and punt returner.

Brown is one of the top receivers in Notre Dame history, ending his career with 2,493 receiving yards and 12 touchdown catches. He also compiled 442 rushing yards and over 2,000 yards as a special teams returner. Brown accounted for a total of 22 touchdowns in his career.

He went on to have a 17-year NFL career, spending all but one season with the Los Angeles/Oakland Raiders. His career concluded in Tampa Bay in 2004.

Brown was a nine-time Pro Bowl selection.
