Tony Petitti has assumed the role of Big Ten commissioner, replacing Kevin Warren who left for the Chicago Bears after a brief tenure leading the conference.

In this week’s “Big Noon Conversations,” Petitti sat down with FOX’s Joel Klatt to discuss a number of topics. Klatt particularly asked the commissioner about his “100-day plan” to kick off his tenure.

Petitti particularly noted the importance of getting the right team in place around him:

“I think the first thing is just the staffing and how the conference office interacts with member institutions,” said Petitti. “Making sure that we’re running on all cylinders, that we’re best in class at the conference offices, doing what the members need, that we have that relationship and trust.”

He continued to explain that the best team in the league office ensures the appropriate parties are available for big-picture issues. That is important as Petitti and the rest of the league prepares for the arrival of USC and UCLA.

“The more that we have great depth and strength (in staffing), the more it will free me up and senior staff to deal with some of the bigger issues,” Petitti explained. “We have USC and UCLA coming in… That’s a new challenge for staff and we got to make sure we’re ready to do that in the best way.”
