When creating a list of the best coaches in college football, it’s essentially a guarantee you’ll see Ryan Day’s name pop up. Entering his third season at Ohio State, all the Buckeyes have done under Day is win.

Ohio State hasn’t lost a regular season, claimed a pair of B1G titles and made back-to-back appearances in the College Football Playoff. But apparently that isn’t quite enough for Pro Football Focus’s Seth Galina.

Day didn’t make the cut for the Top 20 coaches in college football right now.

That list, which was released this week, included four B1G coaches in the Top 20 — Pat Fitzgerald, Tom Allen, James Franklin and P.J Fleck. Yes, Day is the most glaring omission, but there are a few other names who could’ve easily been included.

Iowa’s Kirk Ferentz, Michigan’s Jim Harbaugh and Wisconsin’s Paul Chryst all could’ve made the cut. Instead, none of them were mentioned on the Top 20 list. Here’s where the B1G’s four coaches did rank:

  • No. 6: Pat Fitzgerald, Northwestern
  • No. 16: Tom Allen, Indiana
  • No. 18: James Franklin, Penn State
  • No. 20: P.J. Fleck, Minnesota

All four of those names are deserving of some recognition, but there’s no doubt that Day deserves to be on the list. Sure, he’s only been leading the program for two seasons, but posting a 20-2 record with a pair of B1G titles and College Football Playoff appearances is a pretty good resume.
