Two B1G QBs tabbed as semi-finalists for Davey O'Brien Award
Two B1G quarterbacks have been included in a list of 16 semi-finalists for the Davey O’Brien Award.
Ohio State’s Dwayne Haskins and Michigan’s Shea Patterson were the B1G’s two representatives on the semi-finalist list for the award. The award is presented to the best quarterback in college football.
For most of the season, Haskins has been included in the Heisman Trophy conversation. Through nine games, the Buckeyes gunslinger has thrown for 3,053 yards and 32 touchdowns while completing nearly 70 percent of his passes. He has just six interceptions on the year.
Patterson has blossomed into one of the better quarterbacks in the B1G throughout the year. After a rough start against Notre Dame, the former Ole Miss star has showcased incredible playmaking ability and has been a spark for the offense.
Patterson has thrown for 1,667 yards and 14 touchdowns with just three interceptions. He’s added 187 yards and two touchdowns as a rusher.
The list of 16 semi-finalists will be narrowed down to three finalists on Nov. 19. The winner will be announced on Thursday, Dec. 6 at The Home Depot College Football Awards Show on ESPN.
Oklahoma’s Baker Mayfield was last year’s winner. The last B1G quarterback to claim the award was Ohio State’s Troy Smith in 2006.
