UCF AD unhappy with Florida’s 2-for-1 scheduling offer

For the last two seasons, UCF has been kept out of the College Football Playoff despite going undefeated in back-to-back seasons. The Knights’ weak schedule has been a major reason why they’ve been left out.

Florida athletic director Scott Stricklin made an offer to UCF that would help improve the Knights’ strength of schedule moving forward, according to ESPN. But UCF athletic director Danny White didn’t find the offer acceptable.

Stricklin said he’d be open for a two-for-one deal — two games in Gainesville and one in Orlando — to help with boost the Knights’ resume and add an in-state opponent to the schedule. But White thinks UCF “deserves” better and wants a home-and-home series with the Gators.

That’s not likely to happen, and if UCF was to let this opportunity slip away, it would have nobody to blame except itself if it was in a situation where it was left out of the College Football Playoff again.

Plus, UCF would get a home game out of the deal. There aren’t many Power Five programs — especially in the SEC — willing to do that with a non-conference Group of Five school.

White refusing to make this scheduling addition because Florida wants an additional home game seems like a really bad move. Maybe he’ll change his mind about it in the future.
