USC fired Clay Helton 2 weeks into the season after he had a home loss to an unranked Stanford team.

There has been plenty of speculation of who the next USC head coach might be, the names that have been circulating the most are Penn State’s James Franklin, Jacksonville Jaguars’ Urban Meyer and there has even been some talk about bringing back Lane Kiffin, who is the head man at Ole Miss.

This morning there was a report that an unlikely candidate might emerge.

The USC boosters have reached out to Detroit Lions OC Anthony Lynn about the coaching vacancy.

Jim Trotter, who covers the NFL, provides more context on the situation.

Currently, Donte Williams is serving as the interim head coach for the Trojans. He was formerly their cornerbacks and associate head coach.

USC faces Colorado on the road this Saturday at 2:00 ET on the Pac-12 Network.
