Updated transfer portal data shows several student-athletes still searching for new home
The transfer portal numbers continue to grow. With the offseason in full swing, student-athletes are considering all their options ahead of the 2022 season.
On Monday morning, Rivals.com tweeted out some updated statistics on the transfer portal, dating back to Aug. 1. Since that date, a total of 1,254 players at the FBS level have hit the database.
Per the updated statistics, just over half of the players who have entered the portal have found a new home. There are still 47.9% of FBS players in the portal who have yet to announce their next destination.
A total of 54 players have withdrawn and returned to their original school. Below are the numbers from Rivals.com:

With the creation of the transfer portal, we’ve seen an influx in players leaving a program after a short time. There’s typically a flurry of those who enter at the end of the season and following the conclusion of spring ball.
In a few months, we’ll likely see even more players hit the portal once spring ball comes to an end in April.
It’s interesting to track the data and see how many players return to the FBS ranks, how many drop down to the FCS level and how many return to their original school.
