It’s always enticing when a home underdog is getting points.

For whatever reason, a home underdog is a popular pick to cover and play better than expected. In college sports, even the best teams can struggle away from home. That theme plays out a lot more during conference play, when the competition is supposed to be even.

But this isn’t one of those weeks. If you like betting on home underdogs, the B1G slate is not for you.

There’s only one home underdog (Indiana) this week. And of the seven conference games, five of them have the home team favored by double digits. The only game that isn’t is Minnesota-Penn State. Based on what we saw from the Lions last week, that has “coin flip” written all over it.

Among the more intriguing spreads is Rutgers-Ohio State, which is up to 38.5. Something tells me that a healthy Janarion Grant would’ve brought that number down into the lower 30s. With Chris Ash facing is old team, he still might have a few tricks up his sleeve.

And Wisconsin, which already has two wins vs. top-10 teams away from Camp Randall Stadium is GETTING 10.5 points at Michigan. That’s saying a lot.

Here’s the complete Week 5 B1G spreads, according to Westgate Superbook:

  • Minnesota vs. Penn State (-3)
  • Northwestern vs. Iowa (-13)
  • Rutgers vs. Ohio State (-38.5)
  • Purdue vs. Maryland (-10)
  • Illinois vs. Nebraska (-21)
  • Wisconsin vs. Michigan (-10.5)
  • Michigan State (-7) vs. Indiana
