Though Eastern Washington did not complete the upset, junior forward Tanner Groves carved out a special March Madness moment with an incredible performance.

The Eagles kept 3-seed Kansas on upset alert all game long. Heading into halftime, the Jayhawks were in serious trouble and looking at an eight-point deficit.

After the break, Kansas caught fire and stormed back. Marcus Garrett led five Jayhawk players in double figures with 23 as Kansas scored 55 points after the break for the 93-84 win.

However, the story of the game was Groves. He bewildered the Jayhawks with a beautiful game inside the paint and outside the arc, shooting 11-for-18 from the field for 35 points. Groves finished 5-for-11 from downtown.

Tanner’s brother, Jacob Groves, was also phenomenal in the game. The sophomore guard scored 23 points on 8-for-11 shooting as the Eagles nearly advanced for another game.

Kansas will await the winner of USC vs Drake in the Round of 32.
