North Dakota State entered Saturday on a 39-game winning streak, but lost in stunning fashion on Saturday afternoon.

The Bison fell 38-14 to Southern Illinois thanks to an unbelievable performance by the Salukis. Quarterback Nik Baker completed 17-of-23 passes for 254 yards and a touchdown.

On the other side, NDSU struggled to move the ball offensively. Quarterback Zeb Noland threw for just 159 yards and one interception. Jalen Bussey ran the ball three times for 72 yards, but the rest of the ground game was ineffective.

This game was broken open early in the fourth quarter. Following a Baker touchdown passes that made it 24-7, the Salukis intercepted Noland and eventually scored another touchdown to make it 31-7.

Southern Illinois’ lead eventually got as high as 38-7 before the Bison added a garbage time touchdown to reach the final score of 38-14.

North Dakota’s 39-game winning streak was the longest in FCS history. The Bison entered this game as 16.5 point favorites according to most sportsbooks.

The FCS is playing a spring season to the pandemic.

North Dakota State (2-1) will be in action again on March 6 vs. Missouri State.
