Ohio State has a bit of a new look coming into 2019.

The Buckeyes not only have a new head coach in Ryan Day, but a new starting quarterback as well in Justin Fields. Fields, a former five-star recruit and Georgia transfer, is replacing Dwayne Haskins, who a season ago, set numerous Ohio State and Big Ten records.

The shoes to fill for both Day and Fields are enormous (Day replacing Urban Meyer). Meyer, who is now a FOX college football analyst, talked with Brady Quinn — another analyst — about the Buckeyes and Fields in particular:

Meyer brings up some great points and in general, talked about how Fields is both a gifted runner and thrower. Meyer of course has dealt with QBs like that in the past, as he mentioned, and he said it is always tricky trying to figure out when to utilize his signal callers in the run game and when not to.

He talked about trying to keep his QBs as fresh as possible for as long as he can, because he knows the tougher and more important games in the season always come later in the year. He also compared Fields to Braxton Miller, which makes some sense.

Miller was an extremely dynamic play-maker who could run the ball (as well as throw, of course). Fields is of the same mold. One key difference, however, is that Fields stands at 6-foot-3, 225 pounds. Miller was certainly smaller, at 6-foot-1, 216 pounds.

Fields is the bigger, stronger athlete — almost closer to what former Ohio State QB Terrelle Pryor was. How will Day utilize the incredibly gifted Fields?

We’ll find out at noon on Aug. 31 when the Buckeyes host Florida Atlantic.
