Per his head coach Clay Helton, USC Trojans sophomore QB JT Daniels will miss the remainder of the season due to an ACL and meniscus tear in his right knee.

The injury occurred on a sack in the second quarter of the Trojans’ 31-23 win over Fresno State at the Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum on Saturday.

Daniels will use 2019 as a redshirt season and is expected to undergo surgery in the next few weeks.

“He will be missed, but we will have to move forward, and we wish him nothing but the best,” Helton said.

“We know he’s going to be back.”

Prior to the injury, Daniels was excelling in new offensive coordinator Graham Harrell’s Air Raid system. In less than a full half vs. Fresno State, he went 25-34 for 215 yards, a touchdown and an interception.

True freshman Kedon Slovis will replace Daniels as USC’s starting QB.

A three-star prospect, Slovis was the No. 26 pro-style QB in the class and the No. 13 player in the state of Arizona, per the 247Sports Composite. Entering Saturday’s win in relief of Daniels, Slovis finished 6-8 for 57 yards and an interception.

“We’ve got all the confidence in the world in his (Slovis’) ability,” Helton stated.

“We’ll look forward to watching him play on Saturday.”

Slovis’ first career start will be quite the test as the Trojans welcome the No. 25 Stanford Cardinal on Saturday. The game will kick at 10:30PM ET and will be televised on ESPN.
