Utah football player Aaron Lowe was killed in a shooting in Salt Lake City early Sunday morning.

Police have confirmed Lowe to be the victim, according to ABC4.com. Police are still searching for a suspect. One other person is in critical condition.

This tragedy comes less than a year after Utah running back Ty Jordan was killed in an accidental shooting. Jordan and Lowe were good friends and played together in high school.

Back in August, Lowe was named the first recipient of the Ty Jordan Memorial Scholarship. He also changed his jersey to No. 22 to honor Jordan.

Utah coach Kyle Wittingham has released a statement:

“We are devastated to hear about the passing of Aaron Lowe. Our thoughts and prayers are with Aaron’s family and friends, along with the other individual who was harmed in this tragic incident. Aaron was a great teammate, friend, brother and son.”

Several of Lowe’s teammates have sent out tweets in his honor:

Lowe was a sophomore cornerback from Mesquite, Texas. He committed to Utah in the class of 2019. He was a 3-star prospect, according to 247Sports Composite rankings.

He was credited with making three tackles during the 2021 and was a contributor on special teams.
